.Dark Unkindness Overdrive & Q Filter Pedal.

The Dark Unkindness pedal is a dual circuit with a Q filter/Cocked Wah on the right side and a transparent overdrive on the left side. 

With the zone knob you can set a lower or higher frequency range for the peak knob to set a precise frequency within that range. You can use these knobs to set a higher band to cut through the mix for quick solo or set it on the lower band for cocked wah sound that I personally love for qotsa type tones. 

With the hold or tap footswitch system this side can be employed effortlessly by just pressing down the footswitch as long as you want the effect activated, as long as you are pressing the switching longer than 1 second, it will deactivate when you depress the footswitch. Perfect for short bursts with less need to worry about tap dancing.

The transparent overdrive on the left side is fairly simple, employing a few germanium diodes to give it very natural amp-like clipping stage. The 4 knobs on the left side help fine tune the circuit with a tone knob for overall frequency adjustment and a cut knob right beside it to fine-tune how “tight” it sounds. The dirt knob has a healthy helping of overdrive available, but sounds great towards the lower side for swampy blues type tones too.

Like most dirt pedals, the volume or level knobs and the drive or dirt knobs have some interaction resulting in the specific type of saturation you get.. Sometimes just blasting the level with low dirt is a good way to achieve awesome overdriven tones so I recommend getting wacky with these to test it out!

I try to aim for more versatility, so on the inside there’s also a few trim pots to adjust the level of the q filter and help fine tune the frequency even more if it still doesn’t sound quite sound right after using the top knobs.
